victeri - helping make your victorian terrace house more energy efficient

houseARE YOUR ENERGY BILLS TOO LARGE?

IS YOUR HOUSE DRAUGHTY AND COLD?

HOW CAN I WORK OUT MY PRIORITIES?

VICTERI can advise you on which measures to prioritise, and provide cost guidelines.

clipboardHERE IS A CHECKLIST OF EASY WAYS TO REDUCE YOUR ENERGY USE:

No cost at all:

The Gas bill:

  • Turn down your thermostat and reduce the timed periods when the heating and water are turned on – you could cut 10% or more!
  • Set water heating periods as short as possible – especially in summer when the heating is off.
  • Don’t use an open fire – block off the fireplace.
  • Check the house for draughts – windows, doors, skirting boards, mantelpieces, light fittings etc; and make a plan to stop them.

The electricity bill:

  • Run the washing machine at 30o
  • Only fill the kettle with the water you need.
  • Don’t leave things on standby – it can be like leaving a light on.
  • Turn the light off when you leave the room – lighting is most of your electric bill!

Low(ish) cost:

Spend a bit:

  • Professional Draught proof windows and doors (we can give you a quote)
  • Fit a new 92% efficient (or better) boiler and hot water cylinder with latest controls
  • Put Thermostatic Valves (TRVs) on radiators
  • Put secondary glazing, e.g. on bay windows.

AND IF YOU’RE UP FOR MORE:

Quite expensive, for massive energy savings:

  • Fit insulation board on the inside of your front wall.- we can advise
  • Fit insulation outside, on the back and side walls – we can advise
  • Replace windows with double glazed units

Renewables on the roof:

Generate heat with PV (Photovoltaic cells); we can advise on subsidy (Feed in Tariff) and installers.
Solar Water Heating – we can advise
